Description: GRTP1 Antibody: Growth hormone regulated TBC protein 1 (GRTP1) was identified through microarray analysis as a gene whose expression is regulated by growth hormone (GH). It contains the TBC signature motif of GTPase activator proteins of Rab-like small GTPases. GRTP1 mRNA is expressed at highest levels in testes, and is also present in kidney, lung, liver, and intestine. Administration of GH to mice resulted in an increase in GRTP1 mRNA in testes, but a decrease of GRTP1 mRNA in kidney and liver. GRTP1 was identified as an HIV dependency factor (HDF), suggesting that GRTP1 may be an important drug target in HIV treatment.

Like the highly homologous LASS5, LASS6 is also an endoplasmic reticulum, multi-pass membrane protein. LASS6 is also involved in the synthesis of C14, C16 and C18-ceramide, but shows a preference for unsaturated fatty acids. LASS6 is broadly expressed in a wide range of tissues and microarray data suggests that it may play a role in cancer differentiation and early embryonic development.

TMEM184C protein expression was also lower in cell lines derived from these types of cancers compared to that of normal thyroid tissues or cell lines based on other types of thyroid cancers. Furthermore, transfection of TMEM34 into KTA2 cells led to the inhibition of cell growth, suggesting that TMEM184C might act as a tumor suppressor in anaplastic thyroid cancers.
