Description: This MAb recognizes the peptide core of gastric mucin M1 (recently identified as Mucin 5AC). Its epitope is located in the C-terminal cysteine rich part of the peptide core of MUC5AC. The epitope is destroyed by beta-mercaptoethanol but not by periodate treatment. This mucin is present in primary ovarian mucinous cancer but usually absent in colorectal adenocarcinoma, thus showing an expression pattern opposite to MUC2. Together with a panel of antibodies, Anti-MUC5AC may be useful for differential identification of primary mucinous ovarian tumors from colon adenocarcinoma metastatic to the ovary. MUC5AC antibodies may also be useful for identification of intestinal metaplasia as well as in the identification of pancreatic carcinoma and pre-cancerous changes vs. normal pancreas.

Description: GTP-binding proteins are GTPases and function as molecular switches that can flip between two states: active, when GTP is bound, and inactive, when GDP is bound. 'Active' in this context usually means that the molecule acts as a signal to trigger other events in the cell. When an extracellular ligand binds to a G-protein-linked receptor, the receptor changes its conformation and switches on the trimeric G proteins that associate with it by causing them to eject their GDP and replace it with GTP. The switch is turned off when the G protein hydrolyzes its own bound GTP, converting it back to GDP. But before that occurs, the active protein has an opportunity to diffuse away from the receptor and deliver its message for a prolonged period to its downstream target. [Entrez Gene]

Description: May mediate activation of CASP1 via ASC and promote activation of NF-kappa-B via IKK.NALP proteins are cytoplasmic proteins that form a subfamily within the larger CATERPILLER family and are thought to play a crucial role in cell proliferation and reproduction. Like all other NALP family members, NALP12, also known as Monarch-1, has a C-terminal leucine-rich repeat (LRR) region, an N-terminal Pyrin domain (PYD) followed by a NACHT domain, and a NACHT-associated domain. NALP12 is thought to act as an attenuating factor of inflammation by suppressing inflammatory responses such as NF-kB activation by TLR-signaling molecules MyD88, IRAK-1, TRAF6 and RIPK1 in activated monocytes. Recent evidence suggests that mutations in NALP12 result in hereditary periodic fever syndromes.

Description: The Six proteins (sine oculis) are a family of homeodomain transcription factors that share a conserved DNA binding domain. Six3 is required for the specification and proliferation of the eye field in vertebrates and may be involved in some developmental disorders of the brain. Expression of Six3 is detected in human embryos as early as five to seven weeks of gestation, and is maintained in the eye throughout the entire period of fetal development. At 20 weeks of gestation, expression of Six3 in the human retina has been observed in ganglion cells and in cells of the inner nuclear layer. Six3 maps to human chromosome 2p16-p21, between genetic markers D2S119 and D2S288. The map position of human Six3 overlaps the positions of two dominant disorders (holoprosencephaly type 2 and Malattia leventinese) with ocular phenotypes that have been assigned to this chromosomal region.

Description: Potassium bromide is transparent from the near UV to long wave IR wavelengths. In IR-spectroscopy, solid samples which are difficult to melt or dissolve in any suitable IR-transmitting solvent, are analysed by grinding with potassium bromide powder, and pressing into a disc. This procedure has a high quality demand of the used potassium bromide. Potassium bromide Uvasol® is adjusted to a mean particle size of 150 μm. This is sufficient for the preparation of perfectly good pellets without the need for further pre-treatment and the associated risk of contamination. It also retains its powdery form over a period of years if stored in an airtight condition. Its physical suitability for pelletising is checked by a special application test and its chemical purity established by full spectrum FT-IR analysis.

Description: Voltage-gated potassium (Kv) channels represent the most complex class of voltage-gated ion channels from both functional and structural standpoints. Their diverse functions include regulating neurotransmitter release, heart rate, insulin secretion, neuronal excitability, epithelial electrolyte transport, smooth muscle contraction, and cell volume. This gene encodes a member of the potassium channel, voltage-gated, isk-related subfamily. This member is a type I membrane protein, and a beta subunit that assembles with a potassium channel alpha-subunit to modulate the gating kinetics and enhance stability of the multimeric complex. This gene is prominently expressed in the kidney. A missense mutation in this gene is associated with hypokalemic periodic paralysis. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008].

Description: CDCA7 is a nuclear protein without a known function, although its high homology with the transcription factor JPO2 or RAM2 suggests that it is also a transcription factor. CDCA7 is one of many target genes regulated by the c-Myc transcription factor. Overexpression of CDCA7 occurs in a significant proportion of cancers and it may play an important role in tumorigenesis. Normally it is periodically expressed in the cell cycle, peaking at the G1 to S phase transition.

Description: In a serum-free cell culture system, it is very important to cryopreserve cells also in a serum-free freeze medium and not in a serum containing medium. Using an ordinary serum containing freeze medium, the serum affects the cell culture system over a long period. This influence can only be removed by dilution during a large number of passages after seeding.
