Description: The hepatotrophic factor designated augmenter of liver regeneration (ALR) is thought to be one of the factors responsible for the extraordinary regenerative capacity of mammalian liver. It has also been called hepatic regenerative stimulation substance (HSS). The gene resides on chromosome 16 in the interval containing the locus for polycystic kidney disease (PKD1). The putative gene product is 42% similar to the scERV1 protein of yeast. The yeast scERV1 gene had been found to be essential for oxidative phosphorylation, the maintenance of mitochondrial genomes, and the cell division cycle. The human gene is both the structural and functional homolog of the yeast scERV1 gene.

Description: Meiotic recombination and chromosome segregation require the formation of double-strand breaks (DSBs) in paired chromosome homologs. During meiosis in yeast, a meiotic recombination protein is covalently-linked to the 5' end of DSBs and is essential for the formation of DSBs. SPO11 is similar in sequence and conserved features to the yeast meiotic recombination protein. It belongs to the TOP6A protein family. Meiotic recombination and chromosome segregation require the formation of double-strand breaks (DSBs) in paired chromosome homologs. During meiosis in yeast, a meiotic recombination protein is covalently-linked to the 5' end of DSBs and is essential for the formation of DSBs. The protein encoded by this gene is similar in sequence and conserved features to the yeast meiotic recombination protein. The encoded protein belongs to the TOP6A protein family. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene, but the full-length nature of only two of them have been described.

Supplier: Bioss
Description: Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling cascades include MAPK or extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), MAPK kinase (MKK or MEK), and MAPK kinase kinase (MAPKKK or MEKK). MAPKK kinase/MEKK phosphorylates and activates its downstream protein kinase, MAPK kinase/MEK, which in turn activates MAPK. The kinases of these signaling cascades are highly conserved, and homologs exist in yeast, Drosophila, and mammalian cells. MAPKKK5 contains 1,374 amino acids with all 11 kinase subdomains. Northern blot analysis shows that MAPKKK5 transcript is abundantly expressed in human heart and pancreas. The MAPKKK5 protein phosphorylates and activates MKK4 (aliases SERK1, MAPKK4) in vitro, and activates c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK)/stress-activated protein kinase (SAPK) during transient expression in COS and 293 cells; MAPKKK5 does not activate MAPK/ERK.

Description: The Dumpy-30 (DPY-30) protein was first described in C. elegans, in which it is involved in dosage compensation of sex chromosomes. Conserved from yeast to humans, the DPY-30 family is involved in gene expression and chromatin modification, specifically histone methylation. DPY-30 and closely related proteins contain a short motif that is related to the dimerization motif in the regulatory subunit of protein kinase A (PKA), which consists of two ?helices that form a four-helix bundle during dimerization. As a member of the DPY-30 family, DYDC1 (DPY30 domain-containing protein 1), also known as DPY30D1 and RSD9, is a 177 amino acid protein that binds to Endophilin III and plays a crucial role during acrosome biogenesis. DYDC1 is specifically expressed in brain and testis and accumulates in the acrosome area during spermatogenesis. Knockdown of DYDC1 mRNA results in disruption of acrosome formation and spermatid differentiation.

Description: Gene amplification is associated with tumor stage and progression in human gliomas. Several amplified loci are identified and comprise multiple genes. The glioma amplified sequence 41 (GAS41) is an evolutionarily conserved eukaryotic protein found in diverse species. GAS41 is related to the AF-9 and ENL proteins, which are putative transcription factors in some acute leukemias, and interacts with a component of the nuclear matrix, NuMA, in interphase cells. GAS41 has a dotted staining pattern in interphase nuclei and a uniform distribution in mitotic cells. GAS41 is ubiquitously expressed, with the highest levels of expression in human brain. In neuroblastoma, GAS41 is located in the nucleoli, but not in the nucleoplasm. GAS41 also binds to the MLL fusion partner AF10, which is involved in two distinct chromosomal translocations associated with hematologic malignancy. In addition, GAS41 interacts with INI1 (Integrase Interactor), which is a human homologue of the yeast SNF5 protein, a component of the SWI/SNF complex. The GAS41 gene maps to human chromosome 12q13-q15.

Description: Green fluorescence protein (GFP) is a 27 kDa protein derived from the jellyfish Aequorea victoria, which emits green light (emission peak at a wavelenth of 509 nm) when excited by blue light (excitation peak at a wavelenth of 395 nm). Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) has become an invaluable tool in cell biology research, since its intrinsic fluorescence can be visualized in living cells. GFP fluorescence is stable under fixation conditions and suitable for a variety of applications. GFP has been widely used as a reporter for gene expression, enabling researchers to visualize and localize GFP-tagged proteins within living cells without the need for chemical staining. Other applications of GFP include assessment of protein protein interactions through the yeast two hybrid system and measurement of distance between proteins through fluorescence energy transfer (FRET) protocols. GFP technnology has considerably contributed to a greater understanding of cellular physiology.
