Catalog Number: 911530ZA
UOM: 1 * 1 L
Supplier: VWR Chemicals

Description: Gram's decolourising solution contains acetone and 2-propanol
Catalog Number: 99502.5000
UOM: 1 * 5 L
Supplier: VWR Chemicals

Description: Gram staining is one of the most significant staining techniques in microbiology. Gram′s decolouriser solution is a mixture of ethanol and acetone. Gram′s decolouriser solution is used in Gram staining procedure, after the iodine step to remove the crystal violet dye. The decolouriser dissolves the lipid layer from the gram-negative cells.

MSDS

Description: Gram’s iodine solution is used as a mordant in the Gram staining process. It is added after the primary staining step with crystal violet; the resultant crystal violet - Iodine complex imparts purple color to the cells.

Description: Gram’s safranin solution, also known as Safranin T or Basic Red 2, is a ready-to-use staining solution that comprises 10% safranin in ethanol. Safranin is a basic, cationic, azine dye containing a planar, diaminophenazine chromophore, with a phenyl substituent attached to a ring nitrogen. The trimethyl cationic form of safranine is lipophilic, whereas the dimethyl forms are weakly hydrophilic. It is most notably used in bacteriology as a counterstain in Gram staining to differentiate between Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

MSDS

Description: Gram-Hücker staining is based on the same principle than the Gram-Nicolle staining. The structure of the bacterial walls and their permeability to alcohol help differentiate the Gram-negative bacteria from the Gram-positive ones. In this technique, Carbolic Gentian Violet is replaced by Crystal Violet Oxalate (that does not require filtration) and Ziehl-Carbolic Fuchsin by Safranin.

Description: Gram-Nicolle staining is a differential staining based on the structure of the bacteria wall which is different whether it concerns Gram-positive bacteria or Gram-negative bacteria
