Genistein inhibits EGF-stimulated phosphorylation in cultured cells. Also used to explore signal transduction pathways.
- Inhibitor of tyrosine protein kinase
- Competitive inhibitor of ATP in other protein kinase reactions Antiangiogenic agent, down-regulates the transcription of genes involved in controlling angiogenesis
Soluble in water above pH 8 (at 40 micrograms/ml), DMSO at 50 mg/ml, and in DMF. Practically insoluble in cold water; slightly soluble in hot water, hot ethanol, and hot methanol and soluble in hot 80% ethanol, hot 80% methanol, hot acetone, and pyridine. Warning: alkaline hydrolysis yields phloroglucinal and p-hydroxyphenyl-acetic acid.
ID50 for EGF receptor kinase = 0.7 ug/mL.
Caution: Research Use Only (RUO).
