Conduritol B Epoxide (CBE) is a potent, irreversible inhibitor of various plant β-glucosidases and mammalian glucocerebrosidase, specific covalent inhibitor of β-glucosidase which results in the accumulation of glucocerebroside.
- β-Glucosidase inhibitor
In vitro exposure of cells to CBE has been reported to lead to up-regulation of CD1d (cluster of differentiation 1d) expression by THP-1 cells, which is related to an increase in mRNA expression. Has been employed in in vitro and animal models for Gaucher's disease. Treatment of murine peritoneal macrophages with this inhibitor does not seem to affect lysozyme enzyme release to the medium, cell viability, or levels of intracellular lysosomal enzymes, other than the beta-glucosidase activity.
Soluble in water (25 mg/ml) and DMSO; slightly soluble in methanol. Store solutions aliquoted at -20 °C for up to 3 months.
